Decca Records is the biggest classical record label in the UK and a brand recognized for excellence. The label prides itself on breaking down the barriers associated with classical music, encouraging accessibility for everyone. In celebration of its 90th year, Decca supported the launch of a new Universal Music UK Sound Foundation bursary in 2020 – the Decca Bursary.

The Decca Bursary aims to inspire and encourage a new generation of classical musicians and composers and to aid their journeys of discovery and development. Its mission is to help children across the UK and Eire afford a classical music education, no matter their financial background, at a time when state music education services are under continued budgetary restraints.

The Bursary provides grants to children at the very beginning of their musical journey within the classical genre. It also supports schools to buy new classical instruments to help as many children as possible have the chance learn.

Since its launch in 2020, the Bursary has:

• Made £20,000 of awards to schools and individuals;

• Received over 200 applications;

• Granted awards across all parts of the UK and Eire.

• Funded classical music workshops, run by the Decus Ensemble, in 12 primary schools allowing over 1000 young people to experience and learn about classical music.

• For a second year supported Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Junior’s Primary Winds Programme, giving children the opportunity to start learning a classical instrument. Further information on the programme can be found here.

Decca Bursary is a restricted fund of Universal Music UK Sound Foundation, a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (1104027). Registered as a company limited by guarantee (5062390) in England and Wales. All monies donated will go directly to the Decca Bursary.
